A refreshing Honeycrisp Apple Moscow Mule cocktail served on the rocks.

It’s super simple to make.

Simply combine spiced apple cider and apple vodka over ice and garnish with some crispy, sweet apple slices.

I used Honeycrisp because they are notoriously sweet and wonderful.

But if you have another type of apple you prefer, that’s okay, too.

When to serve an apple mule

This drink is welcome at pretty much any Autumn gathering where booze is served.

From parties to potlucks to that last backyard barbecue before the snow starts falling, the Honeycrisp Apple Moscow Mule is right at home.

It’s great for tailgating too as you can easily make a large pitcher in advance and simply cut your apples right before serving.

And if you want to serve it for the winter holidays, adding a cinnamon stick to your glass shifts this tasty beverage into a classic winter cocktail.

You’ve gotta love a drink that shifts moods so easily!

What is a Honeycrisp Apple?

Honeycrisp apples are one of the naturally sweetest, most delicious varieties of apples.

They have a nice balance between sweet and tart and are very crisp.

The honeycrisp apple season begins in September.

Once you see the Macintosh apples hit the displays at the store, be on the lookout for the honeycrisps to follow.

But depending on where you live, the season may start a little earlier and last a little longer.

So when they are in season, enjoy them while you can as they are a true delight.

Can you freeze honeycrisp apples?

When they are in season, you may even want to buy extra apples to freeze.

Simply peel them and remove the core.

Soak them in some lemon juice, and freeze them flat on a baking sheet.

Bag them up, and you can enjoy making this drink year round!

Why use a honeycrisp apple in a moscow mule?

Honeycrisp apples taste really good raw.

And that’s perfect for serving in a drink like this as you can enjoy crunching on the slices of apple between sips.

They will absorb a bit of the drink’s flavor too as well as adding their own.

However, you may make this drink with the apple of your choice, particularly when honeycrisps aren’t in season.

We also like to make it with Fuji apples.

Ingredients you need to make a Honeycrisp Apple Moscow Mule

Honeycrisp Apple Ingredients

  • 3 oz spiced apple cider
  • 2 oz Franklin’s Organic Apple Vodka, or other apple flavored vodka
  • 1/3 sliced honey crisp apple
  • ice

Substitutions for apple vodka

If you do not have apple flavored vodka, you can use regular vodka and then either use an apple flavored syrup.

Or you can make a homemade apple puree.

But if that’s more than you want to do, simply making the drink with regular vodka will work and still taste great.

Make it a Mocktail

To enjoy our Honeycrisp Apple Moscow Mule recipe without alcohol, simply replace the vodka with club soda or ginger ale.

It will give it a bit of fizz which goes well with the sweet and tart taste from the apple slices.

How to make a Honeycrisp Apple Moscow Mule

Place crushed ice into a double old fashioned or rocks cocktail glass.

Add in organic apple vodka.

Add apple vodka to drink

Top with spiced apple cider and give it a small stir.

Garnish with sliced honey crisp apples or apples of choice.

Note:  If you would like to serve the drink seasonally, you can simply add a cinnamon stick to the glass when you serve it.

Tip: I like to add the apple slices with the ice so that they are arranged attractively in the glass.

If you add the ice first, then the drink, then the apples, you end up shoving the apples in and can easily cause the drink to overflow.
